DPM Fono Welcomes Appointment Of Acting Attorney General

Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Fred Fono (MP) today welcomed the appointment of local lawyer Gabriel Suri as the government’s Acting Attorney General.

Hon. Fono who is also acting Prime Minister said the appointment is necessary to fill up the post which was left vacant following the deportation of former attorney general Julian Moti to Australia in December last year.

“This appointment is very crucial for the present government, especially in seeking legal advice and opinion on important government businesses,” Fono said today.

He said the government trusts that Mr Suri will redirect the Office following the abnormalities and controversies experienced during the previous administration.

Mr Suri took his oath before the Governor General, His Excellency Sir Nathaniel Waena during a swearing in ceremony at Government House today.

His appointment was a cabinet decision officially made this month.

The appointment is valid for six months during which the government will advertise the post.

Mr Suri from Malaita Province previously ran a private law firm in Honiara, which he relinquished ahead of his appointment.
