Putin Congratulates President-Elect, Rep. Of Korea

President Vladimir Putin sent a message of congratulations to President-elect of the Republic of Korea Lee Myung-bak on his victory in the December 19 election.

The President's message reads, in particular:

"Your convincing victory in the election bears witness to the wide public support for your declared policy of national economic growth and consolidating your country's prestige on the international stage.

You are well-known in Russia as a sincere and consistent supporter of strengthening the friendship between our countries. We value your role in organising economic cooperation between our countries during the initial phase of our relations, and we also value your contribution to establishing twin city ties between Moscow and Seoul during your visit to Russia in 2004, and the continued development of these ties.

I am sure that your work in the office of head of state will bring a new quality to the multifaceted and trusting partnership between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Korea and will help to intensify the mutually beneficial dialogue on current international issues in the interests of peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in Asia in general.

For this reason, and given the importance of maintaining close and regular contacts at state leadership level, I invite you to visit our country".
