Cyclone Daman Cost Fiji Government FJD $652,171
Daman cost the government $652,171
The total damages of tropical cyclone Daman on the island of Cikobia recently being released by DISMAC is in the tune of $652,171.
In an exclusive interview with the Department of Information today DISMAC director Joeli Rokovada said the cost includes all types of damages including the school, water, health, housing, community infrastructures and agriculture.
Upon the return of the government ground
assessment team from Cikobia late last week Mr Rokovada had
briefed the Cabinet on the extent of the damages
on the
island.
"We have just received the assessment report from the Commissioner Northern's Office and we will now go back to cabinet to present this report together with our recommendation on further rehabilitation programme," Mr Rokovada said.
"But all these will depend on the cabinet's decision on these issues," he added.
Mr Rokovada is of the view that the school premises with the total estimated damages of $177,500 and housing which is estimated to be around $338,000 will be their number one priority in putting together a rehabilitation programme for the islanders.
