PM Bainimarama Continues His Visit To Middle East
Prime Minister continues his visit to Middle East
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Fiji and Commander of the RFMF was received by the Multinational Force and Observers Force Commander, Major General Kiell Narve Ludvigsen, on his arrival in Sinai, Egypt, to visit the troops of the 2ND Fiji Infantry Battalion.
Major General Kiell Narve Ludvigsen in a meeting with Commodore Bainimarama expressed his utmost appreciation on the performance of the Fiji troops who were operating in the most sensitive and volatile area of North Sinai that bordered the Gaza Strip and Israel. The Force Commander added that he was impressed with the genuine peacekeeping and courageous nature of the Fiji troops who continuously maintained their posture towards the local population despite the escalating tensions and conflict in their area of operations.
The 2nd Fiji Infantry Battalion, currently under command of Lt COL Ifereimi Vasu, has been serving under the MFO banner for the last 26 years since its first inception in 1982. The MFO has been regarded as one of the most successful peacekeeping and observer missions in the world providing an overseer role to the Camp David Accord Peace Treaty between Egypt and Israel following the 1973 October War in Sinai.
Commodore Bainimarama visited the 337 troops deployed in the 12 remotes sites including the MFO HQ in Sinai. During this visit, he reassured the troops of their continued commitment in Sinai and other parts of world. He reiterated the importance of maintaining the highest standard of service to the mission and emphasized on building the good reputation for RFMF and Fiji as a whole. In this visit, the soldiers had the opportunity to a formal discussion with the Commander who also focused on improving the welfare needs of the troops.
In concluding the visit, the Commander conveyed his Christmas and New Year Blessing and well wishes on behalf of the nation.
The Prime Minister will depart Sinai on Friday 21st December for the last leg of visit to the 1st Fiji Infantry Battalion troops in Iraq.
