Border & Immigration: Heathrow Detention Facility
Home Office (UK)
Border and Immigration Agency response to Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Prisons' (HMCIP) reports about Heathrow detention facilities
Responding to HMCIP reports into the Heathrow Detention Facilities, Border and Immigration Agency (BIA) Chief Executive Lin Homer said:
"Removing people from the UK, where they have no legal right to be here, is about fairness and enforcing the rules. The vast majority of detainees pass through short-term holding facilities in just a few hours.
"Since the inspection there have been considerable changes including improvements to child protection procedures and we are carrying out a review of both the complaints procedures and the use of force. We are introducing further training to build on positive staff behaviour.
"I am also pleased that the HMCIP report noted improvements and positive developments at all of Heathrow's holding rooms, and that the Border and Immigration Agency has further strengthened the independent monitoring of these facilities."
