SI Attends Integrated Framework On Trade

SI Attends Integrated Framework On Trade In Vanuatu

Four representatives of the Solomon Islands government have attended a successful Integrated Framework Diagnostic Trade Integrated Study (IF-DTSI) and the Enhanced Integrated Framework in Vanuatu last week.

The four officials from the Trade Division have witnessed the validation workshop which was attended by representatives of the 6 core agencies of the IF, the Executive Secretariat in Geneva that will be looking after the interests of the IF in the LDC's and 4 Pacific Island countries including SI.

The workshop was one of its first kinds in the pacific region. It was of great importance to the pacific region because of its unique value to the development of the country especially Least Development Countries (LDCs).

It marks the end of the Vanuatu's DTIS yet the beginning of the implementation and the execution of the priority projects of their action matrix.

Vanuatu has 32 projects that they have uncovered however will be prioritizing only 6 of them for the start.

Pacific neighbors have greatly learnt from the experience of the Vanuatu's case and have made commitments to do the same.

The Solomon Islands representatives say they have learnt from the Vanuatu experience and committed to follow Vanuatu's case in coming months.

This workshop has put the IF-NIU staff in a more energetic form and has put more emphasis on doing the right thing through learning and interaction with Vanuatu representatives.

The IF-NIU has been a learning experience and the workshop has put the Solomon Islands a step forward.

There are some highlights towards enabling the continuity of the IF process in the Solomon Islands.

One of the productive makings of the workshop is that the European Union (EU) has shade some light into the Solomon's IF and a possibility to be the Lead Donor Facilitator agency.

This will be of great leap because the IF in the Solomon Islands has tried to engage an agency for sometime now for this very important position in the IF Transition process.

Mean while the IF in the Solomon Island is expected to engage in the DTIS early next year and is in a position to advertise for a team leader who will be instrumental in facilitating the DTIS and the chapter consultants in the coming months while looking forward for more interaction and fruitful collaboration with the EU as our possible Lead Donor facilitator.
