National Express Challenged to Print Facts

Attorney General Julian Moti QC has challenged National Express to verify its reporter's version of any story before sensationalising what she writes.

"Being a daily victim of media propaganda and abuse, I don't let the media run my life since they've already ruined it. I would have dismissed the attack on me by National Express last Friday as yet another story on the anti-Moti theme that defines the trash they call a newspaper."

Moti says, however, "it was only when numerous witnesses to the remarks I made to Jennifer Koti confirmed what they saw and heard was not what National Express printed that I decided to let the public know they couldn't have much faith in the accuracy and integrity of that tabloid."

"On the two occasions that I spoke to Jennifer Koti, those who were present recall me telling her, in my distinctively un-Australian English: 'if you're here to write something, make sure you get it right this time because your newspaper seems incapable of doing that.' I doubt whether any seasoned journalist would be intimidated by my challenge to be professional."

"When I was leaving Government House after last Tuesday's swearing-in ceremony, I bade 'goodbye' to Jennifer Koti in the presence of those who vividly remember my courteous gesture as well as my loud reminder to her to 'make sure you don't write another wrong.' National Express can't convince anyone by quoting words that I didn't and never use. I don't speak in grammatically imperfect English. That's the only clue you need to conclude how incredible and inventive the National Express story really is."

Moti has challenged National Express to publish his response without editorial amendment to prove their worthy existence as a fair and responsible medium for the exercise of our constitutionally-guaranteed freedom of expression.

"Knowing who really owns and controls National Express and how bitterly that family adores me, I will be holding my breath for eternity to sample any other humble gesture from that outfit."
