Ambassador Harry K. Thomas, Jr. Sworn in as Director General of the Foreign Service and Director of Human Resources
Ambassador Harry K. Thomas, Jr. was sworn in today as Director General of the Foreign Service and Director of Human
Resources. He has been a career member of the Foreign Service for twenty-three years and was most recently a Special
Assistant to the Secretary and Executive Secretary of the Department.
From 2003-2005 he served as U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh. His other assignments include: India, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, and
Peru, as well as Washington, D.C. He has served as Senior Watch Officer, Deputy Director, and Director of the State
Department Operations Center; Special Assistant to the Under Secretary for Political Affairs; and Staff Assistant to the
Assistant Secretary for African Affairs.
Ambassador Thomas is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross and pursued further study at Columbia University.
