Taiwan Appreciates Solomon Islands Support

Taiwan Appreciates Solomon Islands Support

The Taiwanese Ambassador, his Excellency George Chan has expressed gratitude for the staunch support of the Grand Coalition for Change Government for Taiwan's efforts to re-enter the United Nations and the World Health Organisation.

Ambassador Chan conveyed his heartfelt appreciation when introducing a 12 member Taiwanese Trade and Investment mission to Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare this morning.

He said the two Taiwanese allies of Solomon Islands and Swaziland were the first to initiate the resolution of Taiwan's application for membership of the United Nations and that staunch support was deeply appreciated.

The ambassador said the Minister for Health and Medical Services, Clay Forau and his ministry colleagues had 'continuously and openly' defended Taiwan's cause at the WHO meeting in Geneva.

"Of course we know that this is an ongoing long fight. The battle will not be won until we are physically admitted to these world organizations but again without the staunch support of Solomon Islands and other allies of Taiwan nothing could be possible.

"Today I would like to express our deep gratitude to you Prime Minister Sogavare and your government for your ongoing loyal support. Our people do appreciate every word, every action taken by the Solomon Islands under your able leadership to fight for our admission.

He meanwhile agreed that Solomon Islands was blessed with abundant natural resources and should they be 'expedited' with the passage of the economic zones legislation more investors would be attracted.

Ambassador Chan said he was highly optimistic that the visiting Taiwanese Trade and investment mission would see for themselves the investment opportunities available in Solomon Islands.
