Colourful Sydney & A First Class Welcome For APEC
A Colourful Sydney Will Welcome APEC Australia 2007
A kaleidoscope of colour across Sydney's CBD will welcome over 4,000 leaders, senior officials, foreign and trade ministers, business leaders and over 1,500 media as they gather for APEC from 2-9 September.
APEC themed flower beds and APEC branded street banners reflecting the Australian personality will brighten up key locations across the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority and the City of Sydney precincts.
Commonwealth APEC Spokesman, Anne Fulwood, said that more than 1,000 banners across the city in a range of colours will provide a snap-shot of Australian personality, life and culture whilst celebrating Australia's leadership role as host economy of the APEC forum in 2007.
"The banners in warm and welcoming vibrant earthy colours will also showcase a mix of sponsor branding and APEC themes including 'Strengthening our community, Building a Sustainable Future'," Ms Fulwood said.
"Flowers beds, representing the warm Aussie glow of the APEC Australia 2007 logo, have added a spring flavour to APEC displays around Darling Harbour.
"The objective is to show off the beautiful city of Sydney, rather than to promote APEC, however some banners bear themes of the APEC Australia 2007 year."
"Sydney has time and time again proven itself a world class venue for international gatherings, most recently with the Rugby World Cup and in 2000 the Sydney Olympics. This week Sydney will once again be the flagship for the nation and show its true colours as a major event host," she said.
The banners will be erected at key locations across the city in Darling Harbour, Hyde Park, George Street, Martin Place and en-route to Sydney airport. Installation of the street banners started on Monday 27 August and will be completed on Monday 3 September.
The welcoming street signage will acknowledge the APEC Australia 2007™ year's Exclusive Partner sponsors - Exclusive Technology Partner, Microsoft, and Exclusive Accreditation Partner, Thales.
