APEC 2007 Update: Sydney Transport Information

Sydneysiders will receive more information about traffic, transport and APEC in Sydney as the APEC 2007 Taskforce continues to roll out its public information campaign.

Commonwealth APEC Spokesman, Anne Fulwood, said the APEC 2007 Taskforce is committed to keeping residents and the business community informed about the changes occurring in Sydney, and is keen to provide more information to help people plan for APEC.

Ms Fulwood said residents, businesses, commuters and CBD workforce currently have access to information about APEC Leaders Week via telephone and internet and soon many will have information delivered to their doorstep.

The next phase of the APEC 2007 Taskforce public information campaign is a letterbox drop in the CBD to business and residents, with deliveries continuing through until Friday.

The 4-page newsletter and contains a fly-sheet titled, ‘Important Information about APEC’. It contains very useful, easy-to-read maps as well as more details about public transport and traffic arrangements, APEC venues and public access, and contact details for more information.

Ms Fulwood said the CBD newsletter and the Bondi Bulletin released last weekend were valuable sources of information for business, residents and commuters that would help them plan for APEC in Sydney.

“There is great information on our website, but not everyone has access to the internet, or knows where to go for information. The letterbox drop in the CBD will help people to plan for APEC and to make suitable travel arrangements if they are coming into the city when meetings are taking place from Sunday 2 September to Sunday 9 September,” Ms Fulwood said.

The Bondi Bulletin outlines the traffic and road changes that will be in place around Bondi Beach on Sunday 9 September for the APEC Spouse Programme.

“It is available from the APEC website and will be supported with more information in a mail out to Bondi residents and retailers starting this weekend,” she said.

“These publications are an important part of the APEC 2007 Taskforce’s plans to keep everyone informed about the changes occurring in Sydney and reflects the public information advertising campaign currently on radio and billboards and in newspapers.”

The APEC Enquiry Line - 1300 APEC 01 or 1300 2732 01 - has been receiving a steady stream of calls since it opened on 30 July about APEC security and changes to public transport and roads while APEC is in Sydney in September.

Sydney residents, businesses, commuters and CBD workforce have been calling the APEC Enquiry Line for regular updates about Sydney trains, buses and ferries; changes to Sydney roads; and other general inquiries.

The APEC Enquiry Line will operate until 5pm Sunday 9 September, the end of APEC in Sydney.

“Hosting this great international event will involve some disruptions for our city so we want to provide as much information as possible,” Ms Fulwood said.

“In September, residents and business people will be asked for their patience and understanding as the international spotlight shines on our city and we extend our hospitality to our Asia-Pacific neighbours,” she said.
