World Vision Provides Aid To Earthquake Victims

World Vision has given aid to nearly three thousand families in the worst affected cities of Pisco, Chincha and Ica.

Electricity and phone lines are being restored gradually in these cities, however World Vision staff there report the water supply will take longer to restore. Food, shelter and water, are the greatest areas of need.

World Vision transported a water tank to Ica and distributed 27,000 thousand litres of water for 1,500 families during the weekend in four urban settlements on the outskirts of the city.

For the people of "La Expansion" it was the first time they had received water since the August 16 earthquake. "Our support was a great relief for them. Each family got approximately 15 litres of water", said World Vision worker, Mauro Solorzano.

In Chincha and Pisco, World Vision distributed blankets, shoes, clothing and hygiene kits to 756 families, and also installed two water purifiers and distributed 60 tents. More food packages and hygiene kits are on their way.

World Vision Peru is preparing a long term proposal to help with rebuilding the three devastated cities.
