Hearing Session For Board Of Inquiry Into The Death Of Captain Paul Lawton On 16 August 2007
What: The Board of Inquiry (BOI) into the circumstances surrounding the death of Captain Paul Lawton.

Where: Defence Plaza, Melbourne.
Who: Board members comprise Mr Christopher Lee, a retired South Australian District Court Judge, (BOI President); and LTCOL Nicholas Masotti, an experienced Nursing Officer with a critical care and emergency care background (Board member).
Background:
The BOI to
investigate the facts and circumstances surrounding the
death of Captain Paul Lawton will hold a hearing session on
the afternoon of 16 August 2007, from 2.00pm at Defence
Plaza in Melbourne.
Captain Lawton was a member of the
Defence Materiel Organisations Abrams project team. While
escorting the initial Abrams tanks from the United States to
Melbourne, Captain Lawton fell ill and died on 31 August
2006.
The BOI will conduct its hearings of oral witnesses
in public, except for those elements that would involve the
disclosure of classified information or otherwise in
accordance with directions issued by the Board President.
Media interested in attending the oral hearings are
encouraged to obtain information on the media arrangements.
As the hearings will be conducted at a Defence
establishment, all media will be required to show photo ID.
At the direction of the BOI President, no photography or
recording devices will be allowed in the hearing room.
