Zimbabwe: Government Threatens White Farmers
Question: Do we have any comment on reports that the Government of Zimbabwe has threatened to arrest white farmers that refuse to evacuate land that has been newly identified for black farmers?
Answer: The Mugabe regime has implemented a series of misguided and politically motivated economic policies that that have chased away investors and driven the once-thriving Zimbabwean economy into the ground.
The Government of Zimbabwe is responsible for destroying the country's agricultural sector. It has turned this former food exporting country into one that is dependent on food aid from the international community.
The issue at stake is how to restore agricultural productivity in Zimbabwe, something that will depend on the reestablishment of accountable government.
Restoring the country's agricultural sector is the key to revitalizing Zimbabwe's economy and improving the welfare of the Zimbabwean people.
