Anniversary of the Embassy Bombings in Kenya and Tanzania
August 7 marks the ninth anniversary of the bombings of the American embassies in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi, Kenya.
These terrorist attacks, perpetrated by Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden, killed more than 220 Americans, Kenyans, and Tanzanians and wounded over 4,000 others. Tomorrow we will honor the memories of all our fallen friends and colleagues.
With this anniversary, we are again reminded of the sacrifices of all Americans and Locally Employed Staff who serve in our embassies abroad, often enduring hardship and risk protecting U.S. interests and promoting our values.
