PM Denounces Civil Society For Letter

PM Manasseh Sogavare Denounces Civil Society For Letter

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has condemned the Civil Society Groups for undermining the elected government of Solomon Islands lawful appointment of Julian Moti and Mohammed Jahir Khan as Attorney General and Commissioner of the Solomon Islands Police Force respectively.

The group had written to government ministers and Members of Parliament appealing for support to their demand for the termination of Mr Moti and Mr Khan and the withdrawal of the government’s proposed rearmament programme.

Prime Minister Sogavare said he was sad to see the Civil Society Group totally bent on undermining the decisions of a government which had been elected by the people of Solomon Islands

He said government ministers and backbenchers would not give in to any demand by a so-called Civil Society Group made up of a bunch of individuals who serve foreign interests for their own benefit.

The Prime Minister said the Civil Society Group did not represent the views of Solomon Islanders in any way and this was reflected in their public seminars where only their few sympathizers attended.

Mr Sogavare said it was ridiculous how the group was hell bent on pursuing constitutional agendas in the media.

Mr Sogavare said those refusing to accept the appointments of Mr Moti and Mr Khan should challenge them in court.
