Solomons By-Election Proposed For December
By-election for the Aoke Langalanga and East Malaita constituencies is proposed for December 2007, according to a
program submitted to the Electoral Commission.
Chief Electoral Officer Musu Kevu said the Electoral Office is currently drawing up a program of the by-election, which
proposed the by-election to be held at the end of the year, once given the green light by the Electoral Commission.
"We have made our submissions to the Electoral Commission whereby we put forward two options to them."
"It is whether the by-election will be held at the end of this year, or early next year," he said
"The decision is now for the Commission to decide. That decision will be decided upon very soon during their next
meeting."
"So far we do not have problem with finance, as we have bee assured by the Ministry of Finance that funds are available
after we made our budget submission for the by-election".
He said the budget for the by-election will be included in the 2007 Parliamentary Appropriation Bill.
Meanwhile, Mr Kevu has confirmed that registration for the two constituencies is proposed to begin on September.
He said the new registration for the constituencies might likely to continue until November before the by-election. This
is because the Electoral Office also needs to revise the list used for the 2006 general elections
Aoke Langalanga and East Malaita constituencies have been without Parliamentary representatives after their Members of
Parliament, late Hon Bartholomew Ulufa'alu and late Hon Joses Sanga pass away on May 2006.
