The visiting Taiwanese Navy Squadron today has the honor to visit the Governor General His Excellency Sir Nathaniel Waena and the Acting Prime Minister and Minister Finance Gordon Darcy Lilo in Honiara.
Commander of the Squadron, Rear Admiral Wang Neng-an said the visit continued to show warm and close friendship between the governments and peoples of Solomon Islands and Taiwan.
The Squadron also donated food items to the local Red Cross Society on arrival in the presence of Acting Prime Minister Mr Lilo and Foreign Minister Patterson Oti.
Admiral Wang said his men are happy to assist Solomon Islands Tsunami victims during the process of recovery.
“Although the donation ceremony was done under slight rain, we are happy to help those in need,” he said.
Sir Nathaniel said Taiwan is one of Solomon Islands closest friend and assured the visiting navy team and members of the Taiwanese diplomatic mission in Honiara of Solomon Islands continuous support for Taiwan.
“Taiwan is always close to us when we are in need,” Sir Nathaniel said.
Taiwanese Ambassador George Chan said Taiwan is happy to assist because his government and people were sympathetic and shared the suffering inflicted on victims of the April 2 Tsunami.
“When Solomon Islands suffer, it’s just like when we suffer,” Mr Chan said.
Mr Chan said his government wants Taiwan to lead the world in helping people in need.
Acting Prime Minister, Mr Lilo also assured the Taiwanese visitors of Solomon Islands desire to see Taiwan as one of the respected players in international organizations and events.
