A One Minute Silent To Remember Those Who Lost Their Lives
An euconomical service to remember those who lost their lives as the result of April 2 earthquake-tsunami will be held at the Wesley United Church in Honiara next Monday morning.
The two hour service, organized by the Solomon Islands Christian Association (SICA) will include one minute of silence when the clock strikes 7:39 a.m.
About 7:39 am on Monday April 2, 2007 an 8.1 magnitude undersea earthquake that triggered a tsunami struck near the Islands of Simbo, Rannoga, Vella La Vella and Gizo. Fifty two people were confirmed death and thousand left homeless.
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare who is currently visiting the affected areas in the Choiseul and Western Provinces set aside Monday 23 to be a special national public holiday.
Mr. Sogavare had asked SICA to organize eucominical services in the nine provinces to remember those who lost their lives.
Under Secretary for the Ministry of Home Affairs, Mr. Solomon Palusi said a programme for the service to be held at the Wesley United Church in Honiara was being organized.
Mr. Palusi said the public is welcome to attend the service which will also be attended by government and church leaders.
Solomon Islands Governor-General and Prime Minister will attend the service.
Mr. Palusi said public should arrive at the church at about 6:30 a.m.
