Prime Minister Sogavare Sympathizes With Tsunami Victims

The Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare was today saddened by the destruction and loss of life caused by
the earth quake and the subsequent Tsunami that crashed parts of Western and Choiseul Provinces.
“My heart goes out to all of you in this very trying time,” he said in nation wide address to be broadcasted later this
evening.
Mr Sogavare assured victims of the affected provinces that his government through the National Disaster Council and
other agencies is fully committed to assist victims of the disaster.
A government team comprising government ministerial officials and the Red Cross Society were dispatched to set logistics
at Munda in the Western Province to help with the coordination of logistical assistance.
The Government through the Disaster Management Council and other agencies have also arranged for the immediate
dispatching of tents, food and supply of water.
“I would like to assure our people that as soon as the full report on the extent of the destruction is known, Cabinet
will decide on further assistance,” he said.
Mr Sogavare called on leaders at all levels to ensure victims receive maximum comfort.
“This is a very trying time for our nation and I would urge leader at all levels in the affected areas to make it our
utmost priority to ensure that our people receive the maximum comfort they need,” he said.
“I would like to urge all Christians throughout the country to pray for our nation at this very trying time,” the Prime
Minister concluded.
