Australia issues tougher travel advice for Solomons ahead of vote of no confidence tomorrow
The federal government has issued a strong travel warning for Australians thinking of travelling to Solomon Islands.
The alert comes as Canberra continues to pressure the Solomons to hand over their attorney general, Julian Moti, who is wanted by Australian police over alleged child sex crimes.
Mr Moti, who has been suspended without pay, is believed to be holed up in the Solomon’s high commission in Papuan New Guinea.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) this afternoon upgraded its overall level of travel advice for the Solomons, warning Australians to reconsider altogether any scheduled travel to the country.
The department said political tensions in the country had risen with the resumption of a new parliamentary session, scheduled to last two weeks.
A vote of no confidence in the Government is scheduled for tomorrow.
