Chertoff to Testify Before Homeland Security Committee Tomorrow; Homeland Security Ranking Member Thompson to Address SBI
WASHINGTON - Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) (Ranking Member, Homeland Security Committee) and Rep. Dennis Cardoza (D-CA) (Co-Chair of the Truth Squad) will hold a press conference tomorrow (Tuesday) at 2 pm in the U.S. Capitol (Room HC-9) to discuss waste, fraud and abuse in ongoing effort to secure America's southern border.
The SBI bill would require the Department of Homeland Security's Inspector General to immediately review any Secure Border Initiative contract valued at $20 million or more. The review would include an assessment of cost requirements, performance objectives and timelines. The review would also assess the inclusion of small, minority and women-owned businesses in any subcontracting plans.
Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff is scheduled to testify before the Homeland Security Committee to review DHS priorities for 2007. Thompson and Cardoza will discuss instances of waste related to border security under the stewardship of Secretary Chertoff.
