Democrats Call On Congress To Implement 9/11 Recommendations To Secure America
July 20, 2006 - Nearly two years after the release of several critical homeland security recommendations from the 9/11 Commission, the nation is not secure.
Today, Homeland Security Democrats, led by Congressman Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member, issued a report detailing Democratic efforts to enhance our nation's security, as well as impediments limiting progress.
"Homeland Security Democrats have taken courageous steps to overhaul our Nation's security, and we call on Congress to take immediate action to implement the critical recommendations set forth by the 9/11 Commission to ensure the safety of our nation", said Rep. Thompson.
The attached report, entitled "To Secure America: The 9/11 Commission's Homeland Security Recommendations," provides a side-by-side comparison of 9/11 Commission recommendations, notable action taken to realize these recommendations, and critical efforts that must still be accomplished.
