Bougainville police follow up suspected cross border incident
Enquiries are being made in the Papua New Guinea autonomous province of Bougainville over a suspected cross border incident into Solomon Islands.
This follows Solomon Islands police saying that a group of eight robbers armed with rifles who attacked a village on Fauro island, is likely to have come from Bougainville.
No-one was hurt in the raid but Solomon Islands police say they suspect the group is not local and probably crossed the border as there are no guns reported in that area.
The acting commissioner of the Bougainville Police, Paul Kamaui, says he’s talked to police in Buin in the south of the province to get them to follow up the report.
“I was made aware of the problem from the PNG high commissioner in Honiara and I’ve informed the police in Buin to let me if they could investigate the problem and they could let me know about the problem that is allegedly being reported, from Honiara.”
