Greens say Iraq war, 3 years on, is a nightmare

"Howard made a huge blunder" - Brown

Monday will be the 3rd anniversary of the invasion of Iraq and Greens
Leader Bob Brown says Prime Minister Howard made a huge blunder by involving Australia.

"Mr Howard's optimistic forecasts about delivering Iraq freedom and democracy were cruelly wrong. After spending $810 million on Australian troops' involvement, the reality in Iraq is official death squads, bombed mosques and impending civil war.

"The daily horrors of dumped mutilated bodies, suicide bombers in markets and a ministry of the interior which makes the blood run cold are a legacy of John Howard's decision in 2003.But he doesn't talk about this real human tragedy. He has helped create a nightmare for others to live," Senator Brown said.

The Greens have again called on Mr Howard to heed the majority view of Iraqis and withdraw Australia's troops.
