Immigration still playing politics with peoples lives
Australian Greens Senator Kerry Nettle today called on Immigration Minister to end the farce concerning Robert Jocovic and grant him his permanent residency.
"Why has the Minister brought Robert Jocovic back to Australia if she hasn't made her mind up about his visa?" asked Senator Nettle.
"It isn't rocket science. This man grew up in Australia since the age of two - he our responsibility and the Minister should accept that and give him his permanent residency back.
"Mr Jocovic should have been brought back to Australia when his wrongful deportation was initially discovered. Instead taxpayers have been footing his hotel bill in Belgrade while the Minister dawdles in making up her mind.
"Playing politics with this case only upsets Robert's family. I urge the Minister to give them certainty and grant him back his permanent residency.
"Robert's Special Purpose Visa will run out at midnight on 9 March, yet the Minister will only consider Robert's visa after his attendance at a Department office on the 10 March. Will Robert be illegal on Friday morning and until the Minister grants him a visa?
