San Francisco Joins Growing List of Impeachment Supporters
On Tuesday, San Francisco's Board of Supervisors became the largest city council to endorse the impeachment of George W. Bush. If signed by Mayor Gavin Newsom, San Francisco will become the largest city to endorse impeachment.
Two other California cities - Santa Cruz and Arcata - have also adopted impeachment resolutions. Similar resolutions are pending in Chapel Hill NC and Newfane VT.
Several political parties have endorsed impeachment, including the Democratic parties of California, Nevada, and Wisconsin, as well as the national Green Party.
ImpeachPAC is working with
Progressive Democrats of America and local activists to pass
similar resolutions around the country.

According to ImpeachPAC president Bob Fertik, "Polls show that a solid majority of Americans have supported Bush's impeachment since Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast last September and the Bush administration failed to respond quickly. That outrage was increased by the latest revelations that Bush was told a major levee breach was 'obviously a very, very grave concern' one day before Katrina hit."
"Solid majorities support Bush's impeachment for his Iraq War lies (53%-42%) and for his illegal wiretapping (52%-43%). And these polls were taken before George Bush sold vulnerable port operations to the royal family of Dubai, which sent his approval rating plummeting down to 34%," Fertik said.
Last month, The Nation called for impeachment in its cover story by former Rep. Liz Holtzman. This week, Harper's Magazine called for impeachment in its cover story by veteran editor Lewis Lapham. Richard Dreyfuss and Garrison Keillor called for impeachment.
And the Center for Constitutional Rights just published "Articles for Impeachment Against George W. Bush," which details four Articles of Impeachment: warrantless surveillance, lying to Congress about Iraq, torturing prisoners, and subverting the Separation of Powers.
Support for impeachment is growing within Congress, where 26 Democrats have co-sponsored Rep. John Conyers' H.Res.635, which would create a Watergate-style committee to investigate George Bush's pre-war lies and identify impeachable offenses.
ImpeachPAC has endorsed two House challengers who support impeachment: Tony Trupiano (MI-11) and Chris Owens (NY-11). ImpeachPAC has raised over $60,000 from over 1,600 contributors since its launch in November.
ImpeachPAC is also working with Progressive Democrats of America and several peace and veterans' groups to demand impeachment through meetings with Members of Congress, holding demonstrations in towns like Chapel Hill NC, and even by protesting on the streets near their homes.
"The American people believe the time has come for Congress to consider impeaching George Bush," Fertik said. "Each day's news brings more grounds for impeachment, whether it is the escalating violence in Iraq or the sale of U.S. port operations to a ruling family that hunted with Osama Bin Laden in Afghanistan. Both Democrats and Republicans in Congress should represent their constituents by introducing Articles of Impeachment against George Bush immediately," Fertik concluded.
