Iemma must rule out shoot to kill policy in new anti terrorism laws

Tomorrow's national terrorism summit must rule out endorsing a police shoot to kill policy against terrorist suspects, Greens MP and justice spokesperson Lee Rhiannon said today.

"The Greens are concerned that Premier Iemma is about to secretly adopt UK style shoot to kill laws" Ms Rhiannon said.

"The State sponsored assassination of terrorist suspects has no place in NSW. The Premier must rule out a shoot to kill policy today."

"The death of the Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes at the hands of

London police, shows that a shoot to kill policy is irreversible and has tragic results.

"Killing people without trial is as appalling as terrorism.

"It must be remembered that the UK Government has amongst the strongest anti- terrorism laws in the world, but they did little to prevent a terrorist attack.

"Trading off our civil liberties for the supposed protection of society is a mirage" Ms Rhiannon said
