Conviction of Australian Embassy Bomber, Indonesia
Conviction of Embassy Bomber
I welcome the demonstration today of Indonesia's commitment to fight terrorism with the conviction of Rois (alias Iwan Dharmawan) for his role the bombing of the Australian Embassy in Jakarta on 9 September 2004.
The South Jakarta District Court has sentenced Rois to death for his involvement in the bombing.
He was a key player in the attack on the Embassy, recruiting and training personnel, raising funds and materials for the bomb making and planning the logistics of this heinous act.
The Court has delivered the most severe sentence possible for the bomber's terrible crime.
The conviction underlines Indonesia's determination to prosecute to the full extent of the law those involved directly or indirectly in terrorism.
