Rice Remarks Before Meeting Shimon Peres
Remarks Before Meeting With Israeli Vice Premier Shimon
Peres
Secretary Condoleezza Rice
Jerusalem
July 23, 2005
QUESTION (Andrea Mitchell, NBC News):
Madame Secretary, could we trouble you? I know it's been a
long day, but with such terrible happenings in the attack at
Sharm el-Sheikh. Does the American Government have any idea
who could be behind it? It has all the trademarks of an
(inaudible) al Qaeda kind of operation. Do you have any
information?
SECRETARY RICE: Well I know of no information, beyond what we are reading in the public reports. Obviously, we will offer the Egyptian Government any help that they need. I am certain that our law enforcement and intelligence officials are in touch. But let me just say again, that the world has to thoroughly and completely condemn the kinds of attacks that are taking place against innocent people, like the one that took place in Sharm el-Sheikh, in London just a little while ago. And to the people of Egypt, our deepest condolences to those who have lost their lives. Our deepest sympathies and hopes for the recovery of those who were injured and our support and solidarity to the Egyptian people who are experiencing yet again this terrible surge of terrorism that we all are coming to know too well.
Thank you.
