Annan Updates Security Council on Iraq ‘Oil-For-Food’ Investigation
New York, Jun 29 2005 7:00PM
Secretary-General Kofi Annan met this afternoon with members of the Security Council to provide an update on the Independent Inquiry Committee (IIC), which is headed by former United States Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker and is looking into the United Nations Oil-for-Food programme for Iraq.
According to a statement issued by Mr. Annan’s spokesman, the Secretary-General’s discussion with Council members in his office this afternoon touched on the timetable of IIC’s next reports, its budget, and on a request by the panel for access to documents that pertain to the work of the Council and its subsidiary organs.
“The Secretary-General expressed his intention to comply with the request but wished first to consult with the Security Council,” the statement said.
