Amnesty International Mission to Algeria Begins

Amnesty International mission to Algeria

A delegation from Amnesty International will be visiting Algeria from 6 May to 28 May. Two members of the delegation will arrive on 6 May and, during the first two weeks of the mission, plan to conduct meetings with non-governmenal organizations, human rights activists, lawyers and families of victims, and to conduct research on Amnesty International's concerns in Algeria including violence against women.

A third and fourth delegate will arrive on 18 and 19 May to take part in meetings which have been requested with the Algerian authorities and further talks with human rights organizations. A press conference will be held at the end of the mission and will cover both the launch of Amnesty International's annual report and the findings of the mission. Invitations will be sent out nearer the time once the date and venue are confirmed. It is envisaged to take place on the afternoon of 25 May.
