Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs visits Ukraine

Outcome of Visit by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov to Ukraine

Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, made a working visit to Ukraine on February 21.

During his stay in Kyiv, the head of the Russian foreign affairs agency was received by the President of Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko, the Prime Minister, Yulia Tymoshenko, the Chairman of the Supreme Council (Verkhovna Rada), Volodymyr Lytvyn, and held talks with the Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Borys Tarasyuk.

In the course of the meetings held such important aspects of the Russian-Ukrainian strategic partnership as the questions of political, economic, commercial and humanitarian cooperation were substantively discussed.

The sides devoted much attention to problems in strengthening the formative process of the Single Economic Space of the Four States.

There was agreed at the ministers' meeting a further algorithm of actions for a final and reciprocally advantageous settlement of the Azov-Kerch problems and for the strengthening and improvement of the juridical base of the stationing and functioning of the Russian Federation Black Sea Fleet within the territory of Ukraine.

An important component of the talks was questions of strengthening the humanitarian collaboration of the two countries.

An exchange of views on topical questions of international life, in particular, the problem of Transnistrian settlement took place.
