Kim Jong Il Receives Head of Intl. Liaison Department of CC., CPC

Pyongyang, February 22 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, Monday received Wang Jiarui, head of the International Liaison Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on a visit to the DPRK. Kang Sok Ju, first vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, was present on the occasion.

Wang Jiarui conveyed to Kim Jong Il a verbal message from Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CC., CPC and president of the People's Republic of China, and kind regards from senior party and state officials of China.

Hu Jintao in his verbal message clarified that it is in the fundamental interests of the Chinese and DPRK sides to maintain the stand of realizing the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and protecting its peace and stability, settle the nuclear issue and clear the Korean side of its reasonable concerns through the six-party talks.

Hu Jintao also pointed out that the friendly relations between the two parties and two countries of China and the DPRK have steadily developed on good terms thanks to the concerted efforts of the two sides in recent years and hoped that they would make greater progress in the new year, too.

Kim Jong Il expressed thanks for the verbal message sent by Hu Jintao and asked Wang Jiarui to convey his regards to Hu Jintao and senior party and state officials of China before having a cordial and friendly conversation with Wang Jiarui.

Kim Jong Il, first of all, highly appreciated the efforts made by the party and government of China for the peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula.

He said that the DPRK would as ever stand for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and its position to seek a peaceful solution to the issue through dialogue remains unchanged.

He noted that the DPRK has never opposed the six-party talks but made every possible effort for their success. We will go to the negotiating table anytime if there are mature conditions for the six-party talks thanks to the concerted efforts of the parties concerned in the future, he said, expressing the hope that the United States would show trustworthy sincerity and move.

Kim Jong Il expressed his satisfaction with the development of the relations between the two parties and two countries of the DPRK and China, noting that he was accorded cordial hospitality by the new collective leadership of China during his visit to it last year.

He pointed out that the DPRK would join efforts with China to positively promote the DPRK-China relations at a new stage of development as required by the new century.

Wang Jiarui referred to the fact that thanks to the concerted efforts of the high-ranking officials of the two sides the exchange between China and the DPRK in various sectors and fields has become brisk and proved successful, the bilateral economic and trade ties have grown stable and there is new steady dynamism in the mutually beneficial cooperation, too.

He expressed China's intention to join efforts with the DPRK to comprehensively develop the good neighborliness, friendship and cooperation between China and the DPRK and steadily inject new substance and energy into the bilateral friendly and cooperative relations in a bid to glorify the Sino-DPRK ties of friendship generation after generation.

As regards the nuclear issue of Korea Wang Jiarui pointed out that China has consistently stood for the protection of the peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, supported its denuclearization and held that the parties concerned should settle the nuclear issue of Korea through dialogue to ensure that the DPRK's reasonable concerns are given serious consideration. It is the view of China that the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula is in line not only with the interests of the Korean people but with the security and interests of China in the light of the present international situation, he noted, expressing the hope that thanks to the concerted efforts of each side the six-party talks would resume soon. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on other issues of common concern.

After receiving him, Kim Jong Il hosted a dinner in honor of Wang Jiarui and his party. The dinner proceeded in an amicable atmosphere.
