Baghdad Bomb Incident

A large explosion occurred in the vicinity of the Australian Embassy in Baghdad at approximately 7.05 am Baghdad time on Wednesday 19 January.

No Australians were killed as a result of the explosion and all Australian Embassy and Australian Defence Force Security Detachment personnel have been accounted for.

Two ADF Security Detachment soldiers suffered minor injuries and are receiving medical treatment. Their injuries are not life threatening and they are personally contacting their next of kin.

Australian and coalition soldiers along with the Iraqi Police have secured the incident site. The ADF Security Detachment is continuing with its task of providing security to the Australian Embassy and staff in Iraq.

No other information is available at present.
