Question: Since the incident involving the President and his security, have we been in touch with the Chileans? At what
levels? What was said?
Answer: We enjoy excellent relations with Chile. The matter is closed.
Ambassador Kelly spoke to Chilean police authorities about the incident. He expressed concern that security procedures
previously agreed upon had not been followed by Chilean police. It was agreed that steps needed to be taken to ensure
that there would be no further incidents during the visit.
