Gamgadhi Attacked By Maoists

Gamgadhi, headquarters of remote north-western district of Mugu, remains is reported to be out of communication after
the attack of Maoists rebel on Sunday night. The communication has been disrupted as the 150-line telephone exchange
system was destroyed in the Maoist attacks.
The state-owned Nepal Television (NTV) reported that the rebels attack destroyed nearly one dozen government offices and
private houses rented out to two NGOs. The rebels had set fire on them. Damage worth is yet to be reported. The clash
between the security forces and the rebels continued for more than one-and-half-hour.
The security forces said they had recovered a body of the rebel but casualty on the side f security forces is not known.
The rebels shot and injured a former police constable. He was involved in supplying ration to policemen under a
contract. He has been lifted to Kathmandu, the capital, for treatment. The rebel warriors came in thousand numbers to
attack the headquarters.
In another reports, Dunai bazaar of Dolpa; another remote district in the region; was turned to darkness after a
separate group of rebels bombed the power station supplying electricity to the district headquarters. Also there are
reports of attack in Humla and Jajarkot districts in the mid-western region of the country.
These are the series of attack the Maoists started in the western hilly districts after a short period they had laid
down their arms during the Dashain, the biggest festival celebrated in Nepal. With the approach of another such
festival, Deepawali, the rebels had intensified their attack in their strong hold.
In the western region of the country the government forces are squeezed to the district headquarters where the Maoists
rebels are in their last attempt, they say, to capture the headquarters. Even if there are pressure from political
parties and civil society for ceasefire, both the warring groups ignored it.
