Australian Vehicle Attack In Baghdad
Defence Minister Robert Hill said today's vehicle attack in Baghdad was a reminder of the risks to our Australian Defence personnel who are helping the Iraqi people achieve freedom and a better future. Senator Hill said he deeply regrets the deaths of the Iraqi civilians in the attack and wishes to express his sincere sympathy to their families.
"I also extend my best wishes for a speedy and full recovery to the Australian soldiers who were injured in this callous attack," Senator Hill said.
"The Australian Security Detachment provides protection to our diplomats and officials and also to other Defence personnel travelling on tasks such as training the Iraqi Army.
"It's an important contribution to a multi-national effort that has the support of an overwhelming number of the Iraqi people who are looking for non-violent solutions in their country.
"On behalf of the Australian community, I again wish to express appreciation to our military personnel for their professionalism and commitment to their important job of helping to rebuild Iraq. I also want to thank the families of our personnel for their continual support to their loved ones on dangerous missions overseas."
