יום רפואי בעיר שכם

ביום שבת, ה – 4 בספטמבר 2004, הפעילה עמותת רופאים לזכויות אדם מרפאה ניידת בעיר שכם. היתה זו הפעם הראשונה מזה 4 שנים שצוות מתנדבים רפואי מטעם העמותה נכנס לעיר. 9 רופאים ורופאות, 8 אחים ואחיות, 2 רוקחים וחבר צוות הגיעו לעיר והפעילו בה את המרפאה. עיתונות ישראלית וזרה התלוותה למשלחת ודיווחה על הנעשה. ההופעה בתקשורת הישראלית איפשרה לעמותה להעביר את המסר של המרפאה הניידת – מסר של שיתוף פעולה גם בזמנים של קונפליקט - לקהל הישראלי ובשפה העברית.

הצוות הגיע למחסום בית איבא מערבית לשכם בסביבות השעה 10 בבוקר, אך נאלץ להמתין עד השעה 13:00 כדי להיכנס לעיר. בזמן ההמתנה חיכו חברי המשלחת והתרופות שהביאו בשמש הקופחת. באותו הזמן המתינו לבואם מטופלים פלסטינים וצוות רפואי בתוך העיר במקום בו היה אמור להתקיים היום הרפואי באותו הזמן.

המרפאה הניידת נערכה בשיתוף עם אגודת ההצלה הרפואית הפלסטינית (PMRS). במהלך היום נבדקו כ – 300 חולים ו – 20 חולים הופנו להמשך טיפול על-ידי צוות העמותה. הצוות הרפואי, ערבי-יהודי וישראלי-פלסטיני, עבד עד השעה 16:30. במהלך היום ניסה הצבא לשכנע את חברי המשלחת לעזוב את העיר, ואולם הם המשיכו בפעילות עד אשר חשו כי הושלמה עבודתם לאותו היום.

המרפאה הניידת פועלת מזה כ – 15 שנה, ומאז שנת 2000 נערכת בכל שבוע בשיתוף עם ארגונים פלסטיניים. תקוותנו היא כי עבודה משותפת זו יכולה להוות דוגמא כיצד הרפואה יכולה לסייע ביצירת גשרים של שיתוף פעולה, גם בתקופות של מתיחות ואלימות.

Mobile Clinic in Nablus

On Saturday, 4 September 2004, Physicians for Human Rights-Israel held a mobile clinic in the city of Nablus. This was the first time in four years that the team of volunteer medical staff from the association was able to enter the city. Nine doctors, eight nurses, two pharmacists and one member of the staff entered the city, and conducted the clinic. Members of both the Israeli and foreign media joined the delegation and reported on the events that occurred. The appearances in the Israeli media allowed the association to spread the message of the Mobile Clinic- the message of cooperation even in times of conflict- to the Israeli audience in Hebrew.

The team arrived at Beit Iba checkpoint, west of Nablus, at around 10:00, however they were forced to wait until after 13:00 to enter the city. During these three hours the team members- and the medicines they had brought with them- waited in the hot sun. Throughout this period the Palestinian patients and medical staff inside the city, who had already gathered at the arranged place, waited for the team to arrive.

The clinic was held in cooperation with the Palestinian Medical Relief Society. Some 330 patients were seen during the day, and some 20 patients were given referrals, which the association staff will work on during the week. The medical staff, Jewish and Arab, Israeli and Palestinian, worked until about 16:30. The army made phone calls trying to convince the team to leave, however they continued until they felt they had accomplished what they had set out to do.

The Mobile Clinic project has been in existence for about 15 years, and since 2000 has been running weekly clinics with Palestinian partners. The hope is that this joint work can be an example of how medicine can help build bridges of cooperation, even during tense violent times.
