Mass Protest at Abu Dis Wall

Mass Protest at Abu Dis Wall

On Saturday, February 7 there will be a mass demonstration in Abu Dis protesting the building of the strangulation wall, which is destroying Jerusalem while imprisoning tens of thousands of Palestinians in a walled- in ghetto.

The building of the concrete eight-meter wall in Abu Dis and in the rest of East Jerusalem is going forward in rapid pace. 50,000 residents of Abu Dis, El-Azaria and Sawahre are already cut-off from Jerusalem. According to the plans, within a year the wall will surround A-Ram and the refugee camps of Sho’afat and Anata, and will cut off an additional 100,000 residents from Jerusalem. However, the wall in the Jerusalem area will leave thirteen Jewish settlements on the western side: approximately 173,000 people.

Most of the Palestinian residents in the area are dependent on East Jerusalem for their livelihood. The wall will destroy their ability to make a living; it will separate families, prevent students from attending school and the university, and cut off access to holy sites and cemeteries. The wall currently blocks access to the hospitals in East Jerusalem, prevents doctors from reaching their places of work, and sick people needing emergency care have lost their lives due to the wall.

The wall is turning life – ON BOTH SIDES – to a living hell. It separates Palestinians from Palestinians and is creating Bantustans.

In anticipation of the discussion regarding the wall’s legality in the International Court in the Hague, a joint Palestinian-Israeli march – thousands-strong – will take place on Saturday, February 7. It will be a mass protest against the wall in Abu Dis. Together we will say:

“No to the strangulation wall! Yes to a future of partnership and solidarity!”
