Cyber Activists bring down Immigration web site
Within 24 hours, cyber activists around the world have brought down the Australian Immigration Department web site, as well as its subdomain, the site of the Minister for Immigration, Amanda Vanstone.
Twenty-four hours after launching a worldwide cyber-action, as announced on Indymedia websites around the world, the website of the Immigration Department ( http://www.immi.gov.au/ ) as well as the subdomain of the Immigration Minister Amanda Vanstone ( http://minister.immi.gov.au/ ), both sites seem to have been taken out of action. The website of the Liberal Party seems to be unaffected at this point.
Yesterday notices started appearing of an intended action, creating a "denial of service" of the websites of the Liberal Party and the web site of Australian Immigration Minister Amanda Vanstone, in protest over the situation of hunger strikers on NAURU.
Background information about the highly successful Denial of Service attack by activists against the multimillion dollar company eToys in 1999 is posted below, as well as the original action announcement.
1. Denial-of-service internet resources:
"Denial-of-service attacks involve the flooding of a Web site with bogus requests that wind up blocking legitimate ones. Denial-of-service attacks can be launched using any of dozens of programs available in hacker chat forums and on the Web, including new tools that enable attackers to bombard Web sites with traffic generated by thousands of machines."
