New Zealand woman to direct World Vision Iraq operations

Christchurch born aid worker Judy Moore will take over as operations director for World Vision's Iraq programme from Jan 11, 2004.

For the past three months Ms Moore, 54, has been on secondment in Mosul overseeing operations from an office hidden behind concrete blocks and a concrete wall to deter attacks from car bombs or rocket propelled grenades.

She is currently in Albania completing responsibilities related to her former posting and will take a break before returning to Iraq early next year.

In Iraq Ms Moore has directed the reconstruction of looted schools following post-war mayhem and the delivering of essential aid to thousands left homeless through economic decline and war.
