Rights Group: Hospital Raids Violate Int’l Law

Meanwhile, the US-based rights group “Physicians for Human Rights” accused the Israeli army of violating the Fourth Geneva Convention for invading hospitals in the occupied territory.

This comes a day after Israeli soldiers raided two West Bank hospitals and detained two injured Palestinians the occupation army claimed were suspects.

Medical sources said Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) raided the West Bank city of Nablus Saturday and detained a man in critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit of the Anglican Hospital. The sources identified the man as Khaled Abu Hmaid.

“I explained to the soldiers how critical his condition is,” Dr Annan Abdel Hak told the Associated Press. “Then they removed the machines from his body.”

IOF soldiers also nabbed Jawad Shtayeh, who they said was hiding at the basement of Raffidya Hospital.

“This is not the first time that Israeli troops kidnap wounded Palestinians from hospital beds and endanger their lives,” said Sa’eb Erekat.

“It’s a grave development that contravenes international law.”

There have been several similar raids in recent months weeks, increasing fears among medical staff and human rights groups that hospitals are no longer neutral ground.
