Palestinian Leadership Condemns Bloody Day in Gaza, Demands International Intervention

RAMALLAH, Palestine -- The Palestinian leadership condemned yesterday the Israeli massacre in Gaza Strip, and demanded the international community for interfering to put an end to the Israeli aggression.

Israeli jetfighters and combat helicopters launched five air strikes on Gaza City and Al Nusseirat refugee camp, middle of the Gaza Strip, the most violent strikes since the eruption of Al Aqsa Intifada in September 29, 2000.

The raids left 12 Palestinians killed, including children, and more than a hundred others wounded. Four of the wounded were said to be in a state of clinical death.

A statement of the Palestinian leadership, which was published on WAFA website, said that the Israeli air strikes came at the same time as entire neighborhoods were being torn down by the Israeli occupying forces, and closures continue in Jenin governorate. The written statement called the international community and the UN General Assembly to interfere immediately and put an end to the grave Israeli escalations on the Palestinian people.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Prime Minister, Ahmad Qurea' strongly denounced the Israeli massacre, saying that it would be difficult for the Israelis and Palestinians to ease the tensions in such an atmosphere, stressing on his demand that Israel ceases its attacks on the Palestinian territories and returns to the negotiations table, in order to reach a ceasefire, paving the way towards the peace talks.

On his side, Palestinian cabinet minister and chief negotiator, Sa'eb Ereikat, told Al Jazeera TV that he contacted with the US administration and senior European officials, and demanded them to put an end to the Israeli bloody escalation in the occupied territories.

Over the past two weeks, the Israeli military aggressions on the Palestinian territories has left nearly 30 Palestinians dead, including children and women, hundreds of wounded, and thousands of homeless families, who lost their homes when Israeli occupying forces razed entire neighborhoods in the battered city of Rafah.
