AUCKLAND (IndyMedia/Pacific Media Watch): The global peace weekend has demonstrated a new world "answer" to the corporate and military cultures, says Greens MP Keith Locke in a new independent peace documentary screened on a community television station tonight.

The half-hour documentary about New Zealand's recent peace weekend, Plan B: Peace, produced by Aotearoa Indymedia in collaboration with PlaNET TV, was screened on Triangle TV, an inner city Auckland station.

Moving scenes were shown from the demonstration by 10,000 people in the heart of Auckland on 15 February 2003 and of other rallies around the country among the millions of people who protested against US-led plans for an invasion of Iraq.

Many New Zealand-resident Muslims, Asians, Pacific Islanders, Maori and other groups were represented among the festive protest.

Protesters carried banners such as "Books not bombs", "Don't attack Iraq", "No blood for oil" and "How did our oil get under their sand?"

"[US President George] Bush and [British PM Tony] Blair and [Israeli PM Ariel Sharon] are the real terrorists and they need to be stopped," said one unnamed Muslim New Zealander.

"I really feel like a global citizen now," said Greens MP and foreign affairs spokesperson Keith Locke. "Finally we have something to counter the New World Order of Corporates. We now have a New World Peace Order."

A petition on a long banner signed by hundreds of protesters over the peace weekend was delivered to Prime Minister Helen Clark's home in Auckland.

The documentary was a collaborative effort - made by just 12 people with few resources ‹ "but a desire to see grassroots media grow in New Zealand and around the world".

It will also screen on community television stations in Hamilton, Dunedin and Christchurch. A repeat broadcast will be on Triangle TV at 8.30pm on Monday, March 3.
