John Paul II to Receive British Prime Minister

VATICAN CITY, FEB. 19, 2003 (Zenit.org).- British Prime Minister Tony Blair is one of the many direct contacts John Paul II is pursuing in his efforts to ensure a peaceful solution to the Iraqi crisis.

At a reception Tuesday night in the Italian Embassy in the Vatican, Cardinal Angelo Sodano confirmed that Blair, who supports the U.S. position on Iraq, will be received in audience Saturday.

The Vatican secretary of state explained that Blair's visit will take place in the context of papal and Holy See contacts "with various countries, including the United States and Great Britain."
