HMNZS Te Kaha Sails For Enduring Freedom
HMNZS Te Kaha sailed from Stirling, Western Australia yesterday and after completing final specific-to-mission training
for its role in Operation Enduring Freedom. The Ship’s Company have been honing their force-protection and boarding
skills in preparation for their role in a Canadian-led Task Group operating in the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman.
“It has been a stressful period for the Ship’s Company,” said Te Kaha’s Captain, Commander John Martin. “They had to
switch from preparing to be home for Christmas to training and focusing on the mission, knowing that this one is for
real. I’m very pleased with the progress we’ve made. The Ship’s Company is looking forward to serving the country and is
viewing the operation with relish.”
“What has also been really wonderful is the support and aroha we have had from family and friends at home. We take their
thoughts with us.”
HMNZS Te Kaha is expected to be ‘on station’ until February next year when she will hand over to HMNZS Te Mana.
