Guns + Butter: The Economics of Politics returns to KPFA
Press Release - August 15th - Guns + Butter
BERKELEY, CA - August 15, 2002. GUNS + BUTTER: The Economics of Politics (GNB), with Kellia Ramares and Bonnie Faulkner, is returning to KPFA 94.1 FM Berkeley, CA. on Wednesday, September 11, 2002. The theme of the show will be "Unanswered Questions of 9-11" and will include excerpts from the "Unanswered Questions" press conference held at the National Press Club on June 10, 2002. Since C-Span refused to cover this event, GNB's producers felt it was in the best traditions of KPFA to air a portion of it.
Pending the signing of a programmer's contract, the Sept. 11th show is expected to be the beginning of a 16-week run on Wednesdays from 2-3 p.m. (9/11 through 12/25).
Guns + Butter investigates the relationships among capitalism, militarism and politics. It asks, "Who wins and who loses when the economic resources of civil society are diverted toward corporate globalization, war, and the furtherance of a national security state. GNB burst on the scene at KPFA on October 12, 2001, with an interview with Michael C. Ruppert, Publisher/Editor of From the Wilderness on the topic of "Wall Street, the CIA and the Terrorist Attacks".
In the 9 irregularly scheduled programs (including reruns) that followed, GNB explored the deep economics behind the so-called "War on Terrorism" and the case for U.S. Government foreknowledge and allowance of the 9-11 attacks. Future programming will continue in this vein with topics including: manipulation of the financial markets; the end of the Age of Oil, destruction of retirement security, the destruction of civil liberties since 9-11, and a continued investigation into US Government foreknowledge and complicity in the 9-11 attacks.
Previous Guns + Butter programming is available in Real Audio format at the website: http://www.rise4news.net/GNB.html .
The show will be engineered by KPFA Graduate Apprentice Janet Everett, who has designed the soon-to-be unveiled GNB logo.
Guns + Butter: The Economics of Politics in Northern and Central California will be broadcast on KPFA 94.1 FM (San Francisco Bay Area) and KFCF 88.1 FM (Fresno) and online at www.kpfa.org and www.kfcf.org . The producers welcome inquiries from webcasters, and college and community radio stations, especially Pacifica affiliates, who would like to carry the program.
