Film Australia Appointments

The Federal Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced the reappointment of Dr John Hirst and Ms Megan McMurchy as Directors of the Board of Film Australia Ltd.

'Dr Hirst and Ms McMurchy have both contributed significantly to the work of the Board and I'm very pleased they have agreed to continue their Directorships,' Senator Kemp said.

'Ms McMurchy's experience in producing documentaries provides Film Australia with a high level of assessment expertise.'

Ms McMurchy is a highly respected filmmaker who for over thirty years has worked in a number of positions in film industry organisations. As a producer, her feature film credits include Talk and Breathing Under Water and as Executive Producer her credits include anumber of documentaries such as Sadness, The Diplomat, Federation and China Dolls.

'Dr Hirst's expertise as an historian and his knowledge of Australia's cultural heritage has brought an invaluable perspective to the Film Australia's National Interest Program,' Senator Kemp said.

Dr Hirst lectures in Australian history at La Trobe University, and has written and contributed to a number of books and articles on Australian history. He is also the Chair of the Commonwealth Government's Civics Education Group.

Film Australia is a wholly government owned company operating from premises in Lindfield, New South Wales. The Company's activities include the production of the National Interest Program, marketing and distribution of documentary programs, and management of an extensive film archive.
