Qarase Says He Knew "First Hand"

Issue No: 268 8 December 2000

Interim regime PM, Laisenia Qarase has admitted that he knew of the plans of the terrorists.

Speaking at the Tourism Forum yesterday, Qarase stated:

"Perhaps more than most, I know just how close we were to catastrophe. I saw and heard at first hand what potent passions and influences were at work and how easily emotion could overcome logic and common sense."

This revelation confirms what many have stated in the past of Qarase's close connections with the terrorists.

Qarase was on Speight's list of cabinet ministers. According to terrorists in the Parliament Complex Qarase was a key supporter of the terrorists on the outside. The terrorists, however, disowned Qarase when he "became greedy" and started to "play his own game".

The police so far has not interviewed Qarase on what he knows about the terrorists plans.
